PageRank (dirty elections and nofollow)
If you missed my previous explanation of PageRank you should read it, because today I will kind of upgrade and play a bit more with the PageRank and internet pages elections. OK, let’s say that I just opend a new Blog on the internet (which I did :), duh!) and that I really want to do well on the next PageRank elections. How to get as many votes as possible without breaking a sweat, that is the question every politician asks himself before the elections. Or in my case, how to get as many other pages to link to mine without too much effort?
How to get backlinks?
- the honest move would be to write, sing, pain, photo or whatever something useful, interesting and worthy of linking to. Something valuable to the readers so they will say: “Man, check out that Pagerank Explanation I found a few day ago!” This is the basic principle behind PageRank and behind the search engine rankings.
- a little more active and attractive move would be to post
my, uh no, that wouldn’t really worknaked pictures of my beautiful girlfriend. Lots of votes guaranteed
- if you my dear reader had ever received a mail from someone that is soooo excited about your page and he is asking you to put a link to his page, then you found the next tactic - beging people for links, that can be quite annoying, since the begging can be left to robots that send thousands of pleeeeease link to my page, pleeeasee emails. But still, since all of the above tactics depend on the good will of the webmasters bright heads came up with the next idea -
- posting comments in articles and on internet forums. They struck a goldmine here, at least for a while
How to be a successful spamer
?
- Go to some blog you read, open an article, read it and write a comment: “This is interesting, my opinion blah blah blah, I also wrote about this on http://seotips.buzz-directory.com!”
- you get tired of this quickly so next time you don’t even read the article, you just write: “This is interesting but OMFG did you see this page http://seotips.buzz-directory.com!!!!”
- you get tired of this to, so next time you just copy 10 links to your sites: ” http://seotips.buzz-directory.com, http://www.buzz-directory.com etc..
- and the final stage is when you get tired of that too and get a robot to comment spam 100’s of pages every day. If you found in your comments links like Britney Spears porn, triple enhance your viagra boost and others like that you know what I mean.
How to Stop PageRank Tricks?
You can see that this is probably not what search engines like Google want, this is elections fraud and we need to say that is not fair. But, you can fight this:
- you can knock down all unregistered users and allow comments only from registered ones…. damn, but there are already robots that know how to register and then post comments
- you can use CAPTCHA image system, that forces the user to write some letters and number from a picture into a box before the comment is posted. Robots can not do that, they can not even tell how much is 1+1 :). Well, so far at least. Then there is another option:
rel=”nofollow”
Rel= what? Google counts the PageRank votes by visiting each and every link on every page that is indexed in Google (hm, well at least most of them, it is still a hell of a job). The only links that Google leaves out and doesn’t count them are links that have rel=”nofollow” in them. With this simple word you tell Google that this vote is crap and not valid and that Google should not count it. The link still works for readers if you are wondering. Lots of Blog platforms now have this feature turned on by default. On the other hand that is not quite fair to the quality links in the comments.
How to use rel=”nofollow”?
Your links should look like this: <a href=”some site adress” rel=”nofollow”>Somesite</a>
Voila! Now I explained why there is such a big link rush on the internet these days :). How to take advantage of that - next time!
