SEO Tip 17: Make contest, get backlinks
Another way of getting backlinks that is becoming quite popular these days is to organize your own contest. What kind of contest, 110 meter hurdle race, a miss Reef Contest? Well if you can make all the big bloggers run or if you can get enough girls to join, that would be a great idea :) but no, that’s no it.
I guess there are two ways of doing this. One is to make your contest really interesting, weird, funny, disgusting, whatever - in other words viral, so people will want to write about it an link to it. This is kind of hard since you never know which idea will take off. It’s like getting on the first page of Digg.
So the second easier way is to offer something as a reward. More appealing awards will get better response. Old TV you do not need anymore will get no response. A brand new iPhone that everybody wants will get you lots of exposure. Now there is only one step more to do - make a rule that participants must link & blog about your contest in order to enter it. They give you backlinks and they spread the word about your contest so more people can write about it and link to your site and spread word and so on and etc…
Just make sure that the award is appealing to people you are targetting. Like a 24″ LCD is appealing to me and is the reason I am making another contest post in a sec
