SEO Tip 12: Keywords In Page Titles
Thursday, March 22nd, 2007If we are speaking of on-site optimization for Search engines then the title is one of the most important factors that influence your rankings. So it is a good idea to use your keywords in page titles itself.
Title Tag
Title tag looks like this <title>This is my title</title>. The “This is my title text” will appear in the title bar of browsers when they view your web page and it will show up as a result in the search engines - the title of your page in search engine results listings.
Each page of your website should have a unique and relevatn title! Just make some research and use the keywords that can bring you some traffic.
Common Mistakes
What you should not do is make one title for all your pages. You are loosing valuable SEO points here and unless al your pages are about the same hing, you are also missleading search engines.
The second kick in the dark people make is to put their company name in the title and that’s it. Unless you are a major player and people actually search for your company this is a waste of SEO. People will look for things like “Where do I buy used cars in Alaska?” and not for SlickMickCars. Go it? To a good title if you own a SlickMickCar dealership would be Used Cars in Alaska… or something. You can put your company name behind the keyword in the title like this - Used Cars in Alaska - SlickMickCar.
But remember, the longer the title the less weight each individual word has.
Title Used Smelly Socks gives you more juice for that keyword than Used Smelly Socks, get the in our discount online store called Glamour. Plus… the words in the beginning of the title carry more weight that those at the and. Keep all that in mind when you are writting page titles.
And one more thing that I have to add all the time. DO NOT FORGET ABOUT YOUR READER! Who wants to see the article title stuffed full of keywords? Not me.
